The Department of Human Resources and the Department of Community Service at Ajman University of Science and Technology organized an in-house workshop on First Aid. The 2-day workshop, which was facilitated by the UAE Red Crescent, took place in Sheikh Zayed Center for Exhibitions and Conferences and was attended by 25 AUST staff members.
The workshop kicked off with a welcome note by Dr. Ahmed Ankit, Assistant to the University President for External Relations and Cultural Affairs. Dr Ankit welcomed the Red Crescent team and AUST staff participating in the event and pointed out to the importance paid by AUST founder and president, Dr. Saeed Abdullah Salman, in bridging the gap between academia and the local community. He called upon the participants to take the workshop seriously, as what they would learn here could someday save the life of someone.
Mr. Omar Abou Shaeban, PR officer from the Red Crescent, extended his appreciation to the participants, and expressed the RC’s willingness to give more specialized courses to AUST community.
The workshop started with theoretical lessons which introduced the participants to the job of first-aid worker and the first-aid kit, and explained to them how to fix open and closed wounds and bleedings, burns and fractures. The RC officer also explained how to tend to babies and adults and give CPR. The training concluded with practical demonstrations that helped the attendants assimilate better what they were taught.
The first-aid workshop comes as part of the activities organized by Ajman University of Science & Technology to raise the awareness of its staff, equip them with life skills, and enhance their sense of community engagement and health awareness.
